Forensic Engineering Tools & Techniques
Advanced Accident ReConstruction
Seminar Agenda, Sunday, July 15, 2012 (8 CPDs)
This Special Seminar presentation will feature the following subjects presented by top professionals in their fields.
Preliminary Investigation Results of a Train Disaster in Viareggo (Italy): Application of a multilevel Approach for the Accident ReConstruction. The largest train disaster to ever occur in Italy happened on June 29, 2009, a 14 car freight train carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) derailed and exploded in the train station near the northern Tuscan resort town of Viareggo, Italy.
Presented by special invited guests to present this accident to our Special Seminar.
Presented by: Fabrizio D'Errico, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Milan Italy Maurizio Della Casa, Attorney at Law, Italy
Forensic Engineering Analysis of a Nighttime Bicycle Accident: A Case Study in Collaboration. This accident required the specialties of several forensic engineers that were not contained in a single individual forensic specialist. This will show the collaborative effort required to investigate and analyze the nighttime visibility, visibility, bicycle dynamics and the actions of the involved parties.
Presented by: Jon Jacobson, PhD, PE; Olaf H. Jacobson PE; Guy J. Barbera, PE and Jascon Dorris of High Impact Litigation.
The Use of GPS in Accident ReConstruction. This session will address the underlying engineering principles, sources of potential data, reporting and recording sources, and acquisition procedures for GPS data. Combining GPS data with traditional Forensic Engineering metrologies will be included.
Presented by: Daniel Melcher, PE
Event Data Recorders; Anomalies, Buffering and Misinterpretation. Data from Event Data Recorders (EDR) have been available since 2000. As the number of vehicles equipped with this technology continues to grow, so does the misuse of the data recorded. Examples have been reconstructed to illustrate the reasonable interpretations and the misinterpretations of certain data recorded. Time will be available for discussion from the participants.
Presented by: Mark Whelchel, PE and David King, PE
Breakfast and Lunch will provide a round table opportunity to discuss the various subjects with the presenters and other knowledgeable professionals present.
