Abstract:

All things change it seems and the Delay Claim too is changing. I've had the opportunity to participate in and observe Delay Claims for almost twenty years and can see some trends which are of interest and note to the Forensic Engineer. In the past several years, the construction industry has become highly litigious and this has led more lawyers and engineers to enter the claims practice. The slow down in construction over the past several years has also led to a fair number of do-it-yourself contractor claimants. All these folks practicing new trades tend to generate more claims and disputes. Recently I have heard people say the delay claim business has been more "sophisticated." This is a word our society uses to front for what is simply bad taste in entertainment, literature, hosts of other things and recently many delay claims. I believe an expert's most important attribute is integrity and that brings me to three points I want to make to this distinguished group. They are: Damage Delay Diagram
