Abstract:

A 42 million dollar plus renovation of an Arena located in a north eastern city was behind schedule and over budget. The mechanical contractor responsible for HVAC, piping and steam lines was blamed and fired by the City. By all accounts, complicated designs and engineering problems caused the delays and the different damage claims. Initially the mechanical contractor was the Defendant in the case, but the Forensic Engineering Analysis exposed a pattern of hundreds of intentional delay actions. With the large number of different engineering issues the challenge became how to manage and present this material in a manageable and clear manner. How Modern computer analysis and presentation techniques were useful in clearly presenting this voluminous and complicated evaluation are explored.
